Naked Stories is where I share the stories behind selected photographs from Nude Soul. They are reflections on where I was, what I was experimenting with, what I remember feeling, and what I understand differently when I look back at the images now.

For more than twenty years, nude self-portrait photography has been one of the ways I have explored creativity, vulnerability, faith, spirituality, identity, and what it means to feel at home in the body God created. Some photographs began with a carefully planned idea. Others came from simply having a camera, some interesting light, and enough privacy to create. Naked Stories gives those moments more context while sharing the personal and spiritual journey behind the photographs.

Behind the Scenes: Nude Photoshoots in Nature

For more than twenty years, I’ve been taking my camera into nature and making nude self-portraits. The finished photographs are only part of the experience. A lot happens before the shutter clicks: setting up the camera, getting into position, climbing rocks, jumping into cold water, balancing, falling, trying again, and sometimes just enjoying the process of creating.

For me, being naked in nature is when I feel closest to God. It is a way of being present in creation, present in my body, and grateful for the freedom and joy of being out there. This film is a small glimpse into that process and the moments behind many of the photographs shared throughout Nude Soul.

Nudity, Vulnerability, and the Exploration Along the Way

Nudity has always been part of my approach to fine art male nude photography, but it is rarely the entire subject of the image. Through nude self-portrait photography, I am more interested in what the human form can express within light, landscape, solitude, movement, and stillness. For me, the nude figure becomes a way to explore what it means to be human — vulnerable, created, imperfect, and still belonging within God’s love.

Naked Stories goes behind the scenes of these male nude self-portraits and shares the real experiences behind the finished photographs. My hope is that these stories make the artwork feel more human: connecting each image to the place, creative process, memories, and moments of self-discovery that shaped it.
